This title is a special one for imaginations grown and blooming. When Sam McKechnie of the whimsical shop The Magpie and the Wardrobe got in touch to let me know she had a new book coming out, I couldn’t wait to see what magic she had up her sleeve. The answer is this – Miss Violet’s Dolls House – Magical makes for your miniature world.
Something I have always coveted is one of Sam McKechnie’s handmade Fairies made from papier maché and antique French linen filled with lavender. But they sell out so fast it makes you giddy! So this is the next best thing. In the book, we’ll meet Miss Violet, the prettiest paper doll and the owner of your handmade dream house. Through the creativity filled chapters you will be inspired to make, collect and seek out miniature things to make her a hand-built home. The chapters include Moving in, Kitchen, Parlour, Bedroom and bath and Garden.
Beginning with a shoebox house project, the book is filled with sweet ideas to furnish a tiny home – I love how the scale is topsy-turvy and there are pages of Victorian scraps and other bits and pieces to photocopy or download so you can embellish every room with fabulous paper furnishings. Violet’s paper wardrobe is filled with flowery dresses, stripey socks and a raincoat and wellies too, so much joy to be had here!
This is a wonderful book for big people or small people, perfect for a fun-filled rainy weekend stuck indoors with the kids or on your own of course. Miss Violet’s Dolls House – Magical makes for your miniature world by Sam McKechnie is published by Pavillion Books.
