Time is never on my side these days, the weekends flash by in a second and weeks are just a blur. I have been hoarding up these beautiful pictures from the newest Rachel Ashwell book ‘The World of Shabby Chic‘ for ages. Sadly I didn’t manage to get to London earlier this year to meet Rachel herself, when she was visiting, but, I thought it was high time I share these with you!
Rachel Ashwell’s 9th book is a celebratory look back at 25 years of pastel coloured and feminine inspirations, joys, tears, life lessons, and the found treasures that have made up her journey in pioneering this now-iconic feminine look. My own home has taken a step towards a more masculine and rustic look, but I will always have a weak spot for worn whites, layers of faded florals and a dash of soft pink.
The essence of this look is about creating charming interiors filled with beautiful, worn and well-loved objects. Rachel’s signature palette of faded florals and pastels layered with flowers in abundance creates a feeling of timeless and romantic comfort.
Three main sections make up this extremely pretty book. The Story of Shabby Chic – tells us all about how Rachel got started on her path to cultivating the look and brand. The Heart of Shabby Chic – looks at the varied elements that make up the now world renowned style and The Looks of Shabby Chic – features a range of homes including her own and a few of her well know clients.
I love to get lost in all the images of velvet, petals and chipped paint – slowly taking in snippets of the words about Rachel’s life, and I come back to grab this book off my coffee table every few days.
Even if you are not a convert to this super feminine look, the building and rebuilding of an empire is a very interesting read. I love to learn about the paths taken by creative women from all walks of life and this really is an amazing interiors brand.
The families collection of vintage prom dresses alone is enough to set your heart on fire, and don’t even get me started on The Prairie! A definite addition to the book shelves of all SC fans and lovers of romantic, faded vintage finds – everywhere.
