Having spent a wonderful New Years Eve with our friends in their shed (yep champagne, wood burner, great food all in their awesome shed) we noticed we were still missing something in our house – the crackle of vintage records playing. We have been keen to get a retro record player for ages, but never got around to it. We had seen a couple we liked but didn’t have room for one that was built in to a unit. So when I was asked to try out the Crosley Player – it saved me a lengthly search for the perfect turntable. And it’s a gem!
This neat and compact little thing has a lid that you take off to play all your favourite old time tunes, and it looks perfect sitting on top of my vintage record cabinet, don’t you think?
Crosley make a whole collection of cool retro style record players, maybe you have seen the super cute Cruiser one that comes in a vintage style travel case like Cate’s? I went for a mid-century modern design to keep the husband on side, and I love it, it happily reminds me of the turntable my Granddad had when I was little (accept this one weighs way less and I won’t get scolded for touching it)!
As soon as it arrived we nipped in to town to rummage around in our local record shop and good old Oxfam, for some old vinyl to play. I was most pleased to find a whole box dedicated to show tunes – I nabbed Carousel, Oklahoma and South Pacific! Dean’s arms soon filled up too with Louis Armstrong, some Glen Miller and his orchestra numbers and a treat of a Glen Campbell album.
The player itself is just perfect for us, it takes up no room at all and sounds great with a built in speaker – it doesn’t go too loud, (you can always add extra speakers if you want to go wild) but it’s plenty for us. Besides which, I’m not sure how my neighbours feel about country music.
With built in speaker, an analog AM/FM radio and a portable audio input for connecting MP3 players or other external devices – it’s a great addition to our home.
A cup of tea, some crackling records and a cosy rug for my feet, the perfect recipe for a relaxing morning, evening or afternoon. It feels so great to slow down and do things the old fashioned way for a while.
Do you use a record player at home? My dad and granddad both had one and I grew up listening to their different tastes in music, so I can’t quite believe we have waited until now to hear the satisfying soft sounds of crackling vinyl in our home! Happy dancing x
Love it! I love how compact this one is and how well it goes with vintage furniture even though it’s silver. There’s nothing I like more than putting on a lovely record on a sunny sunday afternoon with a cup of coffee!
What a lovely space! One of my friends has a record player and I’ve always been very envious – it creates such a lovely atmosphere.
Love the vintage style! I’ve been wanting a record player for a long time
