Misty mornings in the mountains followed by breakfast and chatter, knitting and traditional weaving, walking and wonderment. This October Dean and I, along with like-minded peeps will be travelling to Romania with our wonderful host Natasha who has imagined up a dream of a retreat in a magical forest setting. All these beautiful photos were taken by Natasha on her exploratory visit – maybe you would like to come with us and take some of your own?
I cannot wait to try delicious, traditional Romanian food prepared daily with locally sourced ingredients and visit nearby workshops where artisans will be showing us how they create these exquisite traditional works of hand woven art.
I have friends who have visited Romania and said I would love it. This stunning house below with awesome views – is where we will be staying. Furnished with handcrafted items and salvaged vintage finds it is surrounded by the forests and mountains. With loads of outside space, it even has a wooden swing chair – to rock you to sleep under the stars.
Behind the house is a river and a forest and within the grounds is a kitchen garden – I cannot wait to see that. Hand crafted furniture, knitted blankets and traditional woven rugs adorn the chairs and floors. It will be such a cosy base from which we can explore the surrounding countryside and villages.
We will meet the local crafts people (like this amazing lady below) who have been practising traditional methods of spinning, dying and weaving handed down over generations – most of their lives. Cosied up inside the house we will learn how to knit top down sweaters with Renee from East London Knits, I am hoping I can finally get the hang of knitting on this trip?! We will also have will be the opportunity to learn to spin too. My mum will be very proud of me and maybe slightly envious of these views!
After all that creativity we will spend some time getting out in nature and capturing some of the breathtaking landscapes with our hearts and cameras under the guidance of my landscape-aholic husband Dean!
Doesn’t it sound like the most magical place? I am so excited to be a part of Natasha’s first Romanian adventure (and sit at this table below with everyone)!
